Schengen Visa and Residence permit

A Turkish national needs to apply for a Schengen visa for travelling to Finland. A Schengen visa is granted for visiting Finland only temporary for a short period of time. A Schengen visa is valid in Schengen countries for a period of time not exceeding 90 days within 180 days period.  Anyone who intends to work during this period of time has to apply for a residence permit. Holders of Schengen visa are not entitled to work in Finland.

The Foreign Ministry in Finland has commissioned VFS Global Private LTD to operate the Visa Application Centre of Finland in Ankara, Istanbul and Antalya and the Finnish Residence Permit Application Centre in Ankara.  Processing of   applications and making decisions will be done only by the relevant Finnish authorities.

Ready passport/visa can be collected from the Visa Centre.

The Visa Centre is closed on public holidays.

VFS Global charges a fee per application (over and above the visa fee) for their services.

Applications can be submitted to the Embassy of Finland as well. The availability of appointments is limited. The processing time for applications submitted to the Embassy is 15 days from submission of the application. An appointment for submitting a visa application can be booked through the Visa Application Centre's website www.visa.finland.euor by telephone +90 (212) 3735812.

A Schengen visa application

Visa applications must be submitted in person to Finland's Visa Application Centre in Ankara, Istanbul or Antalya. An appointment at the Visa Application Centre must be booked in advance. The Visa Application Centre accepts applicants also without an appointment. The appointment can be booked and the visa application completed electronically on VFS`s website www.visa.finland.eu. The printed visa application form with relevant enclosures and with a valid passport shall be delivered to the Visa Application Centre of Finland. By paying an extra fee the applicant can request that the passport is returned to the desired address in Turkey.

Please note that the Visa Application Centre is only receiving visa applications. The process itself and the final decision will be done by the Embassy of Finland.

Application forms sent to the Embassy by e-mail or by fax will not be processed. An application for a visa must be filed well in advance. Normally, the processing time for a visa application is max.15 days in some exceptional cases it may take several weeks. Applications are processed in their order of arrival, and no information is given half-way through the processing. Passports/issued visas can be collected from the Visa Application Centre.

Non- Turkish citizens

The Visa Centre accepts applications from non-Turkish citizens only in case they possess a valid residence permit issued by the Authorities of the Republic of Turkey.

A Residence Permit Application

 A residence permit application can be lodged personally at the Residence Permit Application Centre of Finland in Ankara. The application can be filled online on https://enterfinland.fi/.  The applicant can also use a paper form. The forms are available on the website of the Finnish Immigration Service.

To submit a residence permit application, the applicant must book an appointment on the Residence Permit Application Centre’s website http://residencepermits.finland.fi/turkey/  or by calling the service number, +90 (212) 373 58 23. Information about processing and service fees is provided at the same time. The applicant must always bring the application in person and must give his or her fingerprints together with a photo. The application will be printed and signed by the applicant. The application process will start after the residence permit fee has been paid.

VFS Global charges a fee per application (over and above the residence permit fee) for their services.

By paying an extra fee the applicant can request services like passport photos, copies, sms-messages.

It is difficult to give any exact guide on processing time. Requests for supplementary documentation are bound to affect the processing time. The Embassy has no influence over processing times at the Finnish Immigration Service.

Decisions can be collected from the Residence Permit Application Centre.
