Finnish poll: Finns positive for Turkey's EU membership

According to the Finnish newspaper Aamulehti's poll, the majority of Finns would accept Turkey as a full member of the EU in 10 years time, if Turkey fulfils the Copenhagen criteria. Only 16 percent of Finns would not allow Turkey to enter the EU.

27 % of Finns would accept Turkey's membership in 5 years time. 61 % of the Finnish people would like to see Turkey as an EU member state in 15 years time.

According to the poll, Finns less than 25 years of age are most positive for Turkey's membership in the EU.

When compared to the Central European countries, the result of this Finnish poll is exceptionally positive.

Over one thousand Finns (the normal sample in polls in Finland) were interviewed by the market research company Taloustutkimus Oy. The poll was done on 4-6 October 2005.
